2: People Press
If you’re thinking to yourself, “I would really like to own one of those zines,” then you’re in luck!
My wife and I have formed People Press.
It’s an Etsy shop and printed extension of our family. Volk is the German word for people so it seemed like a fitting name.
Get $5 off a zine if you become a paid subscriber . . .
3: Paid subscriptions
Up until this point I have very intentionally disabled paid subscriptions because I’m not trying to build a business and I want this to be a casual, creative experiment.
However.
Multiple people have said they would like to financially support my work, which is so crazy to me, like what?! You’ll pay me to keep doing this?! That’s amazing!!
So I’m turning on paid subscriptions, but with a twist. As a free or paid subscriber you will get access to everything (no paywalls), but as a paid subscriber you will get $5 off a zine of your choice from People Press. When you upgrade to paid you will get an email1 with a discount code for the Etsy store.
I’ll do this for the month of April and see how it goes so tell your friends, keep it to yourself or ignore it completely. The ball is in your court.
(Either way thanks for being here it truly means the world to me!)
4: Making prints
This week I made my first print using the Prixel press kit.

5: Manifesto
I haven’t really posted anything online for the last four years. Remember 2020? That year Carly and I got married, moved from Iowa to Wisconsin, had a kid and both started new jobs. All the changes were great but they all happened so quickly. I stopped making art as a way to process life, stopped sharing things online and eventually stopped using social media (or any other form of digital communication) all together. More on that later.
This year I’ve started creating again and have found so much joy in sharing those things through this newsletter.
I have changed quite a bit in the last four years (most notably: became a husband and a dad) so I want to make sure the current version of myself can articulate what I’m doing, why it’s important and how it should be done.
So, here’s my artist manifesto:
I create to connect
I would like to break even
Relationships over everything
Aim to include, not exclude
Do not gatekeep
Don’t forget to have fun
Open source education
Everything is an experiment
Quantity helps produce quality
Show your work
Ask lots of questions about everything
Take the work seriously and not yourself
I feel like I’m getting to know myself again. Four years ago I would not have written I would like to break even or Open source education. It’s fun to document change and growth.
There’s some good stuff in there but this is my first draft and I’ll update it as I go.
