Olive is now a tumbleweed.
She’s rolling all over the place.
Here’s my VERY professional setup.
Toy box + deconstructed lamp + index cards + mini tripod = animation studio
Pacifier so you know it’s legit.
You can see my first failed tumbleweed attempt on the left. It was too intricate and complicated. Plus the pen bleed through the index card.
Last week I listed some things I did last year that I would like to keep doing this year. I forgot to include MAKING ANIMATIONS. How could I? I feel so betrayed.
Obviously I’m going to keep doing that.
Speaking of animations, Substack featured Seeds in motion in one of their recent posts.
Pretty cool!
I added a page to my website that has most of the GIFs I made last year. Warning: it’s chaotic. Check it out here.

“I’ve realized that I love making comics so much because I can balance intellectual work ( research, writing, and storytelling) with creative problem solving (drawing, painting, and design) and craft (printing, paper folding, sewing books, etc.) It’s the perfect combination.” Sarah Shaw on making comics.
Make yourself a Notion face! It’s like making a Mii but much better.
"I don’t really get writer’s block, that’s one of the appeals to me of constraints: if I’m not sure what I want to draw or write about, I can set myself an arbitrary constraint (say: make a one-page comic using only triangles and circles) and that puts me in problem-solving mode rather than worrying about whether I have anything to say.” I’m loving Six Treasures of the Spiral by Matt Madden (and his newsletter).
The best links of 2024 from one of my favorite newsletters. If you like technology, the internet, human relationships, and thinking about how those things could be better then escape the algorithm might be for you.
“None of us are built to be in constant cycles of growth.” A beautiful comic by Christina Chung and a wonderful reminder as we enter a new year.
Would you like more collage in your inbox? Collé has you covered. My newsletter friend Duane Toops was recently featured.
“The incidental labor of everyday life hold us together.” Cat and Girl strikes again.

I love the “chaotic” animations page on your website ;) Very fun to look at and a neat way to showcase your work!
Love the tumbleweed animation!
Thanks for sharing the behind the scenes setup, complete with the pacifier stamp of authenticity.
