This week was very full.
Full of tears and laughs, yelling and apologizing, running and jumping, sitting and sighing, packing and driving.
And on top of that we’re on vacation this weekend out in the woods of Wisconsin.
Vacation with two small kids is parenting on hard mode. It’s constantly realizing you forgot to pack something essential even though you packed the whole house. It’s hard but it’s also really fun. Becoming a parent is mostly learning how to embrace conflicting emotions. Lucy Knisley’s Go To Sleep (I Miss You) sums it up pretty well.
The week was full, but so is my heart.
Knox has been making these really great “baseball field” drawings lately:
Up until this point he’s stuck to one color per drawing so it’s fun to watch him experiment more with color.
“Where are you going, the placenta store?”

I haven’t actually read Richard Scarry and the art of children’s literature yet but I love Chris Ware and Knox loves Richard Scarry so it’s gotta be good, right? Found via kottke.org

I hope your vacation is a good one and loved your thoughts on conflicting emotions and parenthood. Please send Knox my highest regard for his lovely designs.
Knox's baseball field drawings are great because they represent the possibility of so many things. An artist's palette, a view from above, a shy ghost—all sorts!
